Confused about COP21 Agreement

I thought it would be a good idea to write about my thoughts on  COP21 in my blog. As much as I want to be optimistic and happy with the outcome, I am not convinced of how this “agreement” is going to work.Don’t get me wrong I am glad about the fact that COP21 news were all over the media and that it seemed like it caused large scale awareness.

It’s just that …..okay, Let’s say me and my sister agree to go to watch a movie on the weekend and on the day I tell her that I am not going to the cinema. She is probably going to get annoyed and say: “but we agreed” and then I’ll probably say: “well I’m not in the mood sorry!”

If you take this example, technically I haven’t done anything illegal but it sure was not nice of me to do that. So it becomes about morals and manners. Similar to the example, I personally think that if the agreement has no legal binding or defined consequences for those who do not fulfill their promises, it will all become about morals. And let’s just say we don’t live in a world that has strong moral principles!

So I just cannot digest how this agreement is going to pay off if we are putting the faith of climate change on nations’ morality, hoping that will behave well!

I was looking for some COP21 cartoons (and probably spent too much time browsing –they were just too interesting) and decided to share some of them with you in a video below. I have put the sources for each of the figures below in the order they appear in the video.

If you want ,you can watch the video with a better quality here

There is much more story on COP21, so I decided to interview an activist who was in Paris to cover more aspect of COP21 and its results. Don’t miss out the next post!

So long,

  1. I share your concerns, but I guess if legally binding targets were bound to be objected (experience from the past few COPs), it's better to have something than nothing at all?
looking forward to your next post!
